🌙 From Moon Dance to Mexico: Our Journey to Rancho Baile De La Luna

It all started with a little Shetland pony and a lifelong dream.

I (Chris) have loved horses for as long as I can remember. My family didn’t g on a ranch, and we didn’t have money for horses, but when I was six or seven, my mom scraped together $35 to buy me a pony - and that was it. I’ve had horses ever since.

When I married Jeff over 30 years ago, he didn’t know it yet, but he was marrying into a life of hay, hooves, and horsehair. Together, we shared a passion for animals, for adventure, and for building something of our own. We eventually created Moon Dance Ranch in Southern California — a six-acre boarding facility with up to 28 horses. We poured our hearts into that land, remodeling a cardboard box of a house, building the property into a horse ranch from the ground up and learning the ropes of ranch life, one fence post at a time.

After years of hard work and longing for something more peaceful and free, we started dreaming of a new life outside the U.S. We searched everywhere — Costa Rica, beach towns, hidden pockets of paradise — but nothing felt quite right. Then we found San Miguel de Allende.

The very first time we rolled through the gates of this ranch just outside town, I knew. The land, the light, the wide-open spaces — it felt like home. We brought 3 horses with us from the U.S., expecting a quiet retirement... but the ranch came with 6 more. (And one more found it's way to us. Because of course it did.) But we embraced it all. And from that moment, Rancho Baile de la Luna was born.

The name was inspired by our California roots: Moon Dance Ranch. It felt only fitting that our new chapter in Mexico carry that same lunar magic. And here, the moon truly dances — over sun-drenched cactus, golden grasslands, and the sound of hooves on dusty trails.

Today, we share this dream with others. We lead private, guided trail rides through the high desert, connect people with our kind-hearted herd, and invite riders to experience the soul-soothing rhythm of life on horseback.

Whether it’s your first time riding or your hundredth, we welcome you to join us under the moonlight at Rancho Baile de la Luna.

Come ride with us. Come feel what we’ve built. Come meet the magic.
